I invite you to join me in a ground-breaking experiment in giving.
Working with my friends at Givitas, I’m creating an online Reciprocity Ring exclusively for newsletter subscribers.
Think of a Reciprocity Ring as the next stage of social networking – a place where you can ask questions, get advice, and help others.
For instance, suppose your small company is trying to find a great graphic designer for a project. You can post that request. Then maybe someone in the far-flung subscriber universe will have a recommendation.
Or imagine you need guidance on how to convince your boss to fund your proposal or your teenager to do her homework. Ask – and ye shall receive.
The concept is rooted in years of academic research on generosity, knowledge-sharing, and asking for help done by Wayne Baker of the University of Michigan and Adam Grant of the University of Pennsylvania (and author of the amazing book, Give and Take.)
When Wayne, Adam, and team have rolled out this simple technology in other communities, an astonishing number of people have been able to get advice, connections, and know-how they weren’t finding elsewhere.
You can sign up using LinkedIn, Google, or your email. And guess what? It’s free. You won’t ever pay anything. You won’t ever see ads. Your data will never be sold, rented, or shared for any purpose. Also, in case you were wondering, I don’t earn a dime from this.
My goal instead is threefold:
To make it easy to ask for help or to be a giver in just 5 minutes a week;
To tap the collective intelligence of newsletter subscribers and enhance the value of your subscription;
To unleash an epidemic of generosity.
